Treatment of Hodgkin Lymphoma | Non Hodgkin Lymphoma Treatment in india : Omegahospitals , Hyderabad

Lymphomas are cancers of the lymphatic system, which is constituted by lymphatic vessels and lymphocytes (T cell and B cells). There are a lot of different forms of these cancers. They develop from T or B cells, which means that those cells will growth and multiply abnormally after their DNA has been altered (it is the same mechanism as any other cancer).
Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that begins in cells of the immune system. The lymphatic system is part of the immune system. Because lymphatic tissue is in many parts of the body, Hodgkin lymphoma can start almost anywhere. Usually, it's first found in a lymph node above the diaphragm, the thin muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. But Hodgkin lymphoma also may be found in a group of lymph nodes. Sometimes it starts in other parts of the lymphatic system.
Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin lymphoma are both cancers of the lymphatic system. Hodgkin's disease is characterized by the presence of particular cells called Reed-Sternberg cells, whose origin unknown. It's a quite rare form of these cancers.

Treatments for Hodgkin Lymphoma Cancer and Procedures

Treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma is complex. Specialists who treat Hodgkin lymphoma include hematologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists. Your doctor may suggest that you choose an oncologist who specializes in the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma. Often, such doctors are associated with major academic centers. Your health care team may also include an oncology nurse and a registered dietitian.
For localized forms, radiotherapy is efficient (X-rays are concentrated on the zone to treat).
If the cancer has spread to a lot of organs, chemotherapy would be a better choice.
There are new therapies in which the patient's immune system is used to fight the cancer. Drugs called interferon or monoclonal antibodies are administered to increase the action of the immune system against cancer.
If the patient suffers from a very serious form of cancer, bone marrow transplant can be necessary. A transplant is done to restore the capacity of the bone marrow to create those cells.
Combination chemotherapy is almost always necessary for successful treatment. Chemotherapy alone, or abbreviated chemotherapy and radiation, cure 70 to 80 percent of patients with limited (Stages I and II) intermediate-grade Lymphoma. Advanced (Stages III and IV) disease can be eradicated in about 50 percent of patients.

Head and Neck Cancer | Head and Neck Cancer Treatment | Treatment of Head and Neck in India: Omegahospitals , Hyderabad

Head and neck cancer refers to a group of biologically similar cancers originating from the upper aerodigestive tract, including the lip, oral cavity (mouth), nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, and larynx. Thus, mouth cancer, throat cancer, and tongue cancer come under the broad term "head and neck cancer". 90% of head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinomas, originating from the mucosal lining (epithelium) of these regions. Head and neck cancers often spread to the lymph nodes of the neck, and this is often the first (and sometimes only) manifestation of the disease at the time of diagnosis.
Head and neck cancer is strongly associated with certain environmental and lifestyle risk factors, including tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, UV light and occupational exposures, and certain strains of viruses, such as the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus. These cancers are frequently aggressive in their biologic behavior; patients with these types of cancer often develop a second primary tumor.
Head and neck cancer is highly curable if detected early, usually with some form of surgery although chemotherapy and radiation therapy may also play an important role.

Treatments for Head and Neck Cancer and Procedures

Head and neck cancer treatment includes standard routine cancer treatments. These include:
  • Surgery: Doing a surgery or not depends on the location and the size of the tumor. In mouth and pharynx cancers, surgery is done first. Functions of the tumor size, more or less tissues are removed. The neck lymph nodes are entirely removed. In larynx cancers, surgery is done only if the radiotherapy has been inefficient. In this case, the operation is a laryngectomy, partial or total functions of the tumor size. In mouth cancers, repair surgery can decrease the after effects of the tissues removal, thanks to muscles and bones transplants.
  • Radiotherapy: It is often a complement to the surgery, but sometimes it can be the only treatment, particularly in larynx cancers when the tumor size has correctly decreased after the chemotherapy. In mouth cancers, it's sometimes possible to use curietherapy.
  • Chemotherapy: It is done to reduce the most possible the size of the tumor, in order to limit the number of surgeries. Sometimes only the radiotherapy will be necessary after the chemo.
Apart from these regular treatments, certain alternative methods are also available, which include homeopathic cancer treatments and natural caner treatments. These are gaining popularity at a fast pace.

Lung Cancer Hospital | Lung Cancer Treatment | Treatment of Lung Cancer in india: Omegahospitals , Hyderabad

Lungs are exposed to a lot of toxic substances we inhale, such as pollution or tobacco, that's why lung cancer is so frequent.
There are two kinds of lung cancers: small cell and non-small cell lung cancer (the most frequent). These two forms do not growth identically and have different treatments.
The small cell lung cancer is the more serious because it cannot be detected early, and most of the time, by the time it is discovered, cancer has spread to other organs. There are three major types of small cell lung cancer:
  • Small cell carcinoma
  • Mixed small cell/large cell
  • Combined small cell carcinoma
Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common type of lung cancer. It usually spreads more slowly than some other lung cancers. There are three major types of non-small cell lung cancer:
  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Adenocarcinoma
  • Large cell carcinoma
When cancer strikes the lining of the lungs - otherwise known as the pleura - the disease that results is referred to as pleural mesothelioma. Technically speaking, the pleura is a sac which contains the lungs as well as a thin membrane known as the mesothelium, which secretes a vital fluid that enables the lungs to expand and contract during the breathing process.

Treatments for Lung Cancer and Procedures

Surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy (used alone or in various combinations) are the standard methods used to treat lung cancer. The choice of treatment depends on many factors, including the type of tumor, the extent of the disease when it is diagnosed, the age and general health of the patient and other variables.
For small cell cancers, only chemotherapy can be efficient. Sometimes, thoracic radiotherapy is also associated. As the risk of brain metastasis is very high (blood goes directly from lungs to brain), a prophylactic skull radiation exposure is done.
Surgical procedures that may be employed include wedge or segmental resection (removal of a portion of the affected lungs), lobectomy (removal of the entire lobe of the lung) or pneumonectomy (removal of the entire right or left lung).
For non-small cell cancers, if the tumor can be removed surgically, the surgeon will remove one lobe or the entire affected lung (depending on the size and location of the tumor) and the closest lymph nodes, which can contain cancerous cells. If the patient is too weak to have an operation, radiotherapy associated to chemotherapy can be done instead. When the tumor has spread too much and is not removable, or if there are metastases, patient is treated by radiotherapy along with chemotherapy.
For cancer of the pleural mesothelioma, treatment options are limited. Only a handful of mesothelioma patients afflicted with this form of the disease are candidates for surgery to remove tumors, especially since the tumors are often large and widespread by the time of diagnosis.
If only outer pleuron is affected, chemotherapy can be efficient. The possibility of surgery has to be discussed for every patient specifically. Most of the time, both pleura and lung are removed, and radiotherapy is associated. Surgery may be an option later, if the oncologist thinks the removal of a lung would benefit the patient.
More often, pleural mesothelioma patients are treated with radiation or chemotherapy.

Colorectal Cancer Treatment | Treatment of Colorectal Cancer | Colorectal Cancer Hospital India: Omegahospitals , Hyderabad

Colorectal cancer, also known as colon cancer, is cancer of the colon or rectum. Most types of colorectal cancer begin with polyps (grape-shaped growths on the lining of the colon and rectum). Removing a polyp early may prevent it from becoming cancer. Polyps are very common in people older than 50 years of age and usually are benign (not cancerous), but some polyps can slowly develop over the years into cancer.

Treatments for Colorectal Cancer and Procedures

The colorectal cancer treatment, also called the colon cancer treatment, depends on the diagnosis results and the types and stage of the cancer. The diagnosis procedures of rectal cancer are digital rectal exam (DRE), fecal occult blood testing, colonoscopy, CT scans, MRIs, and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and sigmoidoscopy. After the confirmation of the rectal cancer in diagnosis, the clinical stage is started by the doctors. Patients in the stage of ii and iii are treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Surgery is the most common treatment for colorectal cancer. During surgery, the tumor, a small margin of the surrounding healthy bowel, and adjacent lymph nodes are removed. The surgeon then reconnects the healthy sections of the bowel. In patients with rectal cancer, the rectum is permanently removed. The surgeon then creates an opening (colostomy) on the abdomen wall through which solid waste in the colon is excreted.
Chemotherapy is the use of medications to kill cancer cells. It is a systemic therapy, meaning that the medication travels throughout the body to destroy cancer cells. After colon cancer surgery, some patients may harbor microscopic metastasis (small foci of cancer cells that cannot be detected). Chemotherapy is given shortly after surgery to destroy these microscopic cells. Chemotherapy given in this manner is called adjuvant chemotherapy.
Radiation therapy in colorectal cancer has been limited to treating cancer of the rectum. There is a decreased local recurrence of rectal cancer in patients receiving radiation either prior to or after surgery.
Other treatments have included the use of localized infusion of chemotherapeutic agents into the liver, the most common site of metastasis. This involves the insertion of a pump into the blood supply of the liver which can deliver high doses of medicine directly to the liver tumor.
Still other experimental agents include the use of photodynamic therapy. In this treatment, a light sensitive agent is taken up by the tumor which can then be activated to cause tumor destruction.
A new kind of treatment is in place and it is called the monoclonal antibodies. These molecules block a receptor for a growth factor, situated on the cancerous cells. Other can act on the tumor vascular development by blocking the receptor for the vascular growth factor. This is a development with the molecular oncology department taking its research to new dimensions for curing cancer.

Liver Cancer Care | Liver transplant |Liver Cancer Treatment in India : Omegahospitals , Hyderabad

Majority of primary liver cancers (over 90 to 95%) arises from liver cells and is called hepatocellular cancer or carcinoma. Liver cancer or Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the commonest cancers in the world. It may be caused by diseases that lead to cirrhosis of the liver such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C infection, and alcohol abuse.

Liver Cancer Treatment in India

Brain cancer treatment options include a combination of chemo-, biological, radiation, or gene therapy approaches. For patients with metastases to the central nervous system from systemic cancer, procedures may involve:
  • Surgery: Procedure to remove a portion of the liver. Your doctor may recommend partial hepatectomy to remove the liver cancer and a small portion of healthy tissue that surrounds it if your tumor is small and your liver function is good.
  • Transplant Surgery: During liver transplant surgery, your diseased liver is removed and replaced with a healthy liver from a donor. Liver transplant surgery may be an option for people with early-stage liver cancer who also have cirrhosis.
  • Freezing Cancer Cells: Cryoablation uses extreme cold to destroy cancer cells. During the procedure, your doctor places the instrument (cryoprobe) containing liquid nitrogen directly onto liver tumor.
  • Heating Cancer Cells: In a procedure called radiofrequency ablation, electric current is used to heat and destroy cancer cells. It is also called hyperthermia cancer treatment.
  • Injecting Alcohol: During alcohol injection, pure alcohol is injected directly into tumors, either through the skin or during an operation. Alcohol dries out the cells of the tumor and eventually the cells die.
  • Chemoembolization: A type of chemotherapy treatment that supplies strong anti-cancer drugs directly to the liver. It is palliative and not curative treatment.
  • Radiation Therapy: This treatment uses high-powered energy beams to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors.
  • Targeted Drug Therapy: Drugs designed to interfere with a tumor's ability to generate new blood vessels.

Technology used for Treatment of Liver Cancer

Palliative as well as curative technologies used in liver cancer treatments are blood tests, physical examination and a variety of imaging techniques including X-rays (e.g., chest X-rays and mammograms); computed tomography (CT); magnetic resonance (MR) and ultrasound. Also used in treatment of liver cancer is Embolization, a well-established interventional oncology technique that is used to treat trauma victims with massive bleeding, to control hemorrhage after childbirth, to decrease blood loss prior to surgery and to treat tumors. In treating cancer patients, interventional radiologists use embolization to cut off the blood supply to the tumor, deliver radiation to a tumor (radioembolization), or combine this technique with chemotherapy to deliver the cancer drug directly to the tumor (chemoembolization).
Radioembolization is very similar to chemoembolization but with the use of radioactive microspheres. This therapy is used to treat both primary and metastatic liver tumors.
This treatment incorporates the radioactive isotope Yttrium-90 into the embolic spheres.
Similar to Radioembolization is Cryoablation, where the energy is delivered directly into the tumor by a probe that is inserted through the skin. But rather than killing the tumor with heat, cryoablation uses an extremely cold gas to freeze it.

Cervix Cancer Treatment | Cervical Cancer Treatment in india : Omega Hospitals , Hyderabad

These stages are:
  • healthy cervix
  • inflammatory cervix
  • cervix with epithelial cells anomaly
  • intra-epithelial cancer (cancer limited to the cervix epithelial cells)
  • infiltrating cancer (cancer spread to other close tissues)
  • If the cancer is detected early, it can be easily treated.
The tumor is generally situated in the cervix part near the vagina. It is visible during the examination with the aid of a speculum (an instrument that spreads vagina walls to examine and access the uterus cervix). Sometimes, the tumor is situated inside the cervix and this make the diagnosis difficult.

Treatments of Uterus Cervix Cancer and Procedures

The cervical cancer treatment is different for each stage. Treatment for each stage is as follows:

  • Intra-Epithelial Cancer: This is an easier stage to treat and the chances of recovery are high. A surgery called conisation is done where only the cancerous part of the uterus cervix is removed. The operation is done under general anesthesia and vaginally. There is no abdominal incision.
  • Spread to Uterus or Vagina: At this stage, the tumor is still local, and high rates of recovery can be obtained with the help of the following methods:
    • Surgery: A total hysterectomy is done, which means that the entire uterus is removed. This is necessary to ensure that all the cancerous cells have been removed. The pelvis lymph nodes are also removed and sometimes an ablation of the ovaries is also done, depending on the age of the patients and the characteristics of the tumor.
    • Radiotherapy: A caesium endo-vaginal application (with curietherapy, which is internal radiation exposure) is done and to reinforce its efficiency an external radiation exposure is also done.
    • Both: Surgery and radiotherapy can also be done.
    • Chemotherapy: In some cases, chemotherapy is done along with radiotherapy to reinforce its efficiency.
When the cancer has spread to a big part of the uterus or vagina or when the cancer has spread to the close organs, or when there are metastasis. These are the late stages of Uterus Cervix Cancer and for these stages; the treatment consists of radiotherapy, chemotherapy or an association of both.

Endometrial Cancer Treatment | Treatment of Endometrial in india Cancer: Omega Hospitals , Hyderabad

There are several types of endometrial cancers; the most frequent are adenocarcinomas, which start from the cells that cover glands in the endometrium.
Uterine carcinosarcoma is another kind of endometrial cancer. It's a rare form composed by the association of carcinoma (cancer that develops from epithelial cells that covers uterus) and sarcoma (cancer that develops from connective cells like muscular cells of the uterus).
Finally, there is another cancer called uterine sarcoma, which starts from the muscular cells of uterus (deep cells). It's a rare form, not included in endometrial cancers, whose treatment has to be decided on a case by case basis.

Treatments of Endometrium Cancer and Procedures

Women with endometrial cancer have many treatment options. Most women with endometrial cancer are treated with surgery. Some have radiation therapy. A smaller number of women may be treated with hormonal therapy. Some patients receive a combination of therapies.
Most women with endometrial cancer have surgery to remove the uterus (hysterectomy) through an incision in the abdomen. The doctor also removes both fallopian tubes and both ovaries. (This procedure is called a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.)
In radiation therapy, high-energy rays are used to kill cancer cells. Like surgery, radiation therapy is a local therapy. It affects cancer cells only in the treated area.
Doctors use two types of radiation therapy to treat uterine cancer:
  • External Radiation: In external radiation therapy, a large machine outside the body is used to aim radiation at the tumor area. No radioactive materials are put into the body for external radiation therapy.
  • Internal Radiation: In internal radiation therapy, tiny tubes containing a radioactive substance are inserted through the vagina and left in place for a few days. Once the implant is removed, the woman has no radioactivity in her body.
Hormonal therapy involves substances that prevent cancer cells from getting or using the hormones they may need to grow. Hormones can attach to hormone receptors, causing changes in uterine tissue. Before therapy begins, the doctor may request a hormone receptor test. This special lab test of uterine tissue helps the doctor learn if estrogen and progesterone receptors are present. If the tissue has receptors, the woman is more likely to respond to hormonal therapy.
Apart from these regular treatments, certain alternative methods are also available, which include homeopathic cancer treatments and natural caner treatments. These are gaining popularity at a fast pace.
